Landskate es la muestra de un arte y de un lenguaje gigante. Desde su génesis californiana (la tierra del skate que se soñó en aquellas playas, cielos y llanuras urbanas) no reconoce fronteras, no construye paredes o muros, sino que hace rampas. En la esencia de la misma superación de límites, el artista y su obra trascienden su contexto cultural. Lo que nació ya alrededor de la tabla ha generado un sólido grupo de artistas, fotógrafos, escritores y diseñadores gráficos que exploran nuevas dimensiones del arte. Landskate es esa profunda dimensión.

Entre los más de cuarenta artistas que integran Landskate podemos encontrar desde la icónica fotografía de Glen E. Friedman o J. Grant Brittain, hasta ilustradores más noveles como Ian Johnson, Sam Pierson y Jim Houser, pasando por obras de auténticas leyendas del skateboard como son Craig R. Stecyk III, Andy Howell (New Deal Skateboards y fundador de Element Skateboards), Wes Humpston (grafista de Santa Monica Airlines y Dogtown), Tim Kerr (cantante de los legendarios Big Boys), Tobin Yelland (Thrasher Magazine), Pat Ngoho (Love & Guts) o Mark Whiteley (fundador de Slap Magazine), sin olvidarnos de algunos de los artistas más consagrados que existen en la actualidad en el arte contemporáneo, como Jeremy Fish, Dennis McNett, Chad Eaton “Timber!” o Evan Hecox.

Landskate es también un espacio convergente. A la vez que crece, se expande y diversifica, también crea un ángulo al que dirigir y unir varios elementos comunes. Prueba de ello es que Landskate es una exposición mundial llevada a cabo por los que formamos el equipo de Staf thenew.popculture y, para esta ocasión, en estrecha colaboración con la Universidad de Málaga (UMA), y que tras viajar por varios países reúne por primera vez en España la edición completa en el Rectorado.

Por todo esto, pero sobre todo por razones más sencillas, te damos la bienvenida a esta exposición y a la sexta edición del Festival Moments, a tus tierras, sin puertas ni paredes, solo curvas deslizantes. A tu barrio, al arte que te rodea. Siempre bienvenido.

The inherent power in assorted geometric forms and surfaces empowers skateboarding as an ascendant cultural force. The world’s paramount urban sport/art is freely accessible to everyone everywhere in the civilized sector of human achievement. It offers laissez faire appropriation of architectural masterpieces and forlorn abandoned civic structures alike. This free form appropriation/interpretation of public space inspires all. Landskate is the example of a giant art and language. Since its Californian origins, the land of skateboarding that was dreamed in those beaches, skies and urban plains they don´t dream with borders. The Land of Skate does not build walls or limits, it make ramps. In the essence of the same overcoming of limits, the artist and his work transcend their cultural context. What was born and around the board, it´s a generator of a solid group of artists, photographers, writers, graphic designers ... who explore new dimensions of art. Landskate is that deep dimension.

Among the more than forty artists that make up Landskate we can find from the iconic photograph of Glen E. Friedman or J. Grant Brittain, to more novel illustrators such as Ian Johnson, Sam Pierson or Jim Houser, passing through some of the works of authentic skateboarding legends such as Craig R. Stecyk III, Andy Howell (New Deal Skateboards and founder of Element Skateboards), Wes Humpston (graphic designer of Santa Monica Airlines and Dogtown), Tim Kerr (singer of the legendary Big Boys), Tobin Yelland (Thrasher Magazine), Pat Ngoho (Love & Guts) or Mark Whiteley (founder of Slap Magazine), without forgetting of course some of the most established artists that exist today in contemporary art, such as Jeremy Fish, Dennis McNett, Chad Eaton "Timber!" or Evan Hecox.

 

Landskate is also a space for union, while growing, expanding and diversifying, it also creates an angle to direct and link several common elements. Proof of this is that Landskate is a worldwide exhibition held by those of us who formed the Staf thenew.popculture team, and for this occasion, in close collaboration with the University of Malaga (UMA), and which after exhibiting for several countries brings together the complete edition of Landskate at the Rectorate Exhibition Hall of the University of Malaga for the first time at its inauguration in Spain.

For all this, but mainly for more simple reasons, we welcome you to Landskate and to the sixth edition of Moments festival. It is your land, without doors or walls, just sliding curves. Going to your neighborhood, to the art that surrounds you.
